Dermal filler Dissolving

HYLENEX

Dermal filler removal is a specialized treatment designed to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers that may have led to overfilling, asymmetry, or other concerns. It involves the use of an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which targets the unwanted filler and returns the treated area to its natural state. This process can correct various issues, providing a refreshed and balanced appearance.

At PLSTK, flexibility is one of our favorite things about fillers, so we offer the option of reducing or reversing them. Most of our fillers-specifically hyaluronic acid-based fillers-can be reversed with injections of a substance called Hylenex. This product instantly dissolves fillers such as JUVÉDERM and Restylane products if you are unhappy with your results or you simply want less volume. It’s a safe, fasting-acting option that’s been used in medical settings for decades, and is effective for anyone who wants to reverse or alter the appearance of their HA filler.

Keep in mind that Hylenex and other hyaluronidase-based filler removers do not affect calcium hydroxlapatite fillers such as Radiesse and Sculptra. Other common injectables, such as Botox, Dysport, and Kybella, are also unaffected.

Before & Afters

After dermal filler removal, the treatment area will immediately start to return to its natural state. Full results are typically visible after two days, once any swelling has subsided.

What to Expect from Your Dermal Filler Removal

Undergoing a Hylenex treatment for dermal filler removal or alteration is a relatively simple and quick process. The procedure typically takes around 15–20 minutes. Before the treatment, a topical anesthetic or ice pack may be applied to numb the area and ensure your comfort during the injection. Your provider will then perform the hyaluronidase injections in the area where the filler is located.

Recovery and aftercare

After the treatment, you may experience mild discomfort, redness, and swelling at the injection site. These side effects usually resolve within a few hours to a couple of days. Avoid strenuous activities and excessive heat exposure for 24 hours following the procedure; most patients can resume their normal activities after this period.

Full results are typically visible within 24 to 48 hours after the treatment. In some cases, additional treatments may be needed to achieve the desired outcome. Schedule a follow-up appointment with your healthcare provider to assess the results and determine if further treatments are necessary.

Risks and Side Effects

While Hylenex is generally considered safe for removing or altering hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, it does carry some potential risks and side effects. The most common side effects are mild and localized, including redness, swelling, itching, or pain at the injection site.

In rare cases, patients may experience more severe reactions such as difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and fast heartbeat. Allergic reactions to Hylenex are rare; however, if you have a history of allergies, your provider may perform a skin test beforehand. By informing your healthcare provider of any allergies or medical conditions you may have, as well as any medications you are taking, you can minimize the risks associated with Hylenex and achieve the best possible results.
