Wrinkles are signs of normal aging that can often affect our confidence. There are two types of wrinkles– dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles are wrinkles caused by muscle movement. When we raise our eyebrows up or furrow our eyebrows, to make an angry face, we activate the use of our facial muscles which creates dynamic wrinkles. Over time, as we continue to make these facial expressions, the repetitive muscle contractions can lead to permanent lines and wrinkles.
Understanding Dynamic Wrinkles
Dynamic wrinkles appear when facial muscles contract during expressions like smiling, frowning, or squinting. These temporary lines typically affect areas such as:
- The forehead (horizontal lines when raising eyebrows)
- Between the eyebrows (frown lines or “11s”)
- Around the eyes (crow’s feet)
- Around the mouth (smile lines)
In younger individuals, these lines disappear when the face is at rest. However, with age and repeated muscle movements, these dynamic wrinkles can eventually become permanently etched into the skin, transforming into static wrinkles.
Understanding Static Wrinkles
Static wrinkles are visible even when your face is completely relaxed and not making any expressions. These wrinkles develop due to:
- Loss of collagen and elastin, proteins that maintain skin elasticity
- Decreased natural moisture and oil production
- Environmental damage from UV exposure and pollution
- Lifestyle factors such as smoking and poor nutrition
- Gravity’s constant pull on aging skin
Treatment Options at PLSTK
Here at PLSTK, we offer treatments to treat both dynamic and static wrinkles. We offer neuromodulators such as Botox, Jeuveau, Dysport, and Daxxify. These injectable treatments work by temporarily relaxing the targeted facial muscles to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Each can be used by your medical provider to individualize a treatment to tailor your needs. During your consultation, we’ll discuss which neuromodulator might be right for you based on your concerns, desired results, and previous treatment experiences.
For the treatment of static lines, we offer several advanced options: lasers, microneedling, chemical peels, hydrafacials, dermal fillers, and more. For many clients, the most effective approach is combining treatments that address both dynamic and static wrinkles. Our skilled practitioners will create a customized treatment plan based on your unique facial anatomy, skin condition, and aesthetic goals.
